Classmate Nellene Grose Kenyon represented the Hutchinson High School Class of 1968 in the tenth annual scholarship awards ceremony held on May 3^rd in the Hutchinson High Auditorium. This year’s nominee was Hailey Stringfellow, who was awarded our $8,000 scholarship, which consists of $4,000 for the first year and an additional $4,000 if all the academic criteria is met, thus enabling her to earn a business degree with her choice of Hutchinson Community College. Other members of the Scholarship Committee attending the awards ceremony included Julie Sherill Drach and Frank Stuckey.

Each year the seven representatives of Hutchinson High School Class of 1968 Scholarship Committee review applications from Hutchinson High seniors. Applicants are judged on their grade point average, their support both in school and community events, family background including income and their choice of a college major.

The list was reviewed by the committee with three finalists chosen from the pool of fifteen applicants. The Class of 1968 committee ranked and made their recommendation for the top three candidates to the Hutchinson High School selection committee Board who has the final decision-making authority. The Board was not bound by our recommendation, however had agreed with our ranking and recommendations over the past several years. Hailey was the committee’s top choice for the 2023 scholarship!

The Hutchinson High Class of 1968 Scholarship Committee was organized in 2008 at our fortieth reunion and, to date, has raised $759,425.74 towards future scholarships to deserving HHS seniors! The monies are held and invested by the Hutchinson Community Foundation.
